Terms of use

What you agree to by using Ecla, and what we commit to in return.

Version of 12 September 2026.

!
Draft. This text describes how Ecla actually works today, but a lawyer has not read it yet. A final version will replace it before the app is published.

Who provides Ecla

Ecla is a social network published by Cospera. By creating an account you accept these terms and the privacy policy, which forms part of them. If either does not suit you, do not use Ecla — and if you already have an account, you can delete it from the app at any time.

Your age

Ecla is not permitted below 13. Between 13 and your country’s digital consent age — 15 in France — you must give a parent’s email address; they receive a link and grant or refuse their agreement from their own inbox. Until that agreement is given, the account cannot be used.

A minor’s account starts with closed settings — private profile, not findable by search, messages from strangers refused — and no advertising is selected for it from their profile. A parent may withdraw their agreement, set screen time and quiet hours, or delete the account, at any time. Declaring a false date of birth to get around these rules is grounds for closing the account.

Your account

An account is personal. You are responsible for it, including what is posted from your devices: do not lend your credentials. Accounts are created on the phone; a computer or browser has to be approved from it before receiving anything.

You give us accurate information, in particular your date of birth and a phone number that is yours. We verify that number by SMS to keep automated accounts down, and we may refuse or close an account that multiplies identities.

What is not allowed

Ecla is a shared public space. You may not post, send or circulate:

Being disagreeable is not forbidden; harassing someone is. The line is not always sharp, and we try to hold it with judgement rather than by the letter.

What you post

What you post stays yours. You simply grant us permission — free of charge and limited to operating Ecla — to store your content, show it to the people you meant it for, and resize or transcode it so it displays properly. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, save for copies other users have already made, which are not ours to reach.

You remain responsible for what you post. You warrant that you hold the rights to it, or the right to use it.

Reporting, blocking, filtering

Reporting: in the app, long-press a post or a comment, or open a profile, then choose Report. Nothing beyond your own account is required to do this.

Blocking: from a profile, Block cuts everything — posts, comments, messages — in both directions, and does not notify the blocked person.

Filtering: uploaded images and video are scanned automatically before publication, and text is scanned for the most serious categories. This filtering is not perfect: reporting remains the surest way to reach us.

What we do about it

We review reports within 24 hours. Manifestly illegal content is removed without waiting for that review. Depending on severity and repetition, we may remove content, restrict or suspend an account, or close it permanently.

We tell you what we decided and why, and you can challenge the decision by writing to contact@ecla-app.com: a human reviews it again. Content involving the exploitation of a minor is reported to the competent authorities.

Advertising

Ecla is funded by advertising, and shows it. Ads are chosen from what you follow on Ecla, never from your private messages nor from a profile built elsewhere. Minors’ accounts receive contextual ads only. The detail is in the privacy policy.

Ecla+

Ecla+ refers to additional features. It is not sold today: no payment, subscription or in-app purchase is offered in the app. If that changes, pricing terms and your right of withdrawal will be presented to you before any payment, and this page will be updated accordingly.

Encryption, and its price

Your conversations are end-to-end encrypted. The keys live on your devices, not with us: we cannot read your messages, and we cannot restore them. If you lose every device, those conversations are permanently gone — for you as for us. That is the price of nobody else being able to read them, and we would rather write it here than let you discover it.

The service, as it is

Ecla is young and being built in the open. Features appear, change or disappear, and the service may be interrupted for maintenance or by incident. We do not promise flawless availability, and we charge nothing for this service.

We are not responsible for content posted by other users, nor for indirect loss — of audience, of data published elsewhere, of contacts. Nothing in these terms sets aside the liability the law imposes on us for gross fault or harm to persons, nor the rights the law gives you as a consumer.

Ending all this

You can leave whenever you want: Settings → My account → Delete my account. Deletion is permanent and removes your posts, your comments, your messages and your profile.

We may close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks the rules above, or where the law requires it. Except where doing so would compromise an investigation or someone’s safety, we give you the reason and you can challenge it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by French law. If you live in another European Union country, you keep the benefit of the mandatory provisions of your national law.

If a dispute arises, write to us first: most are settled that way. Failing that, you may use a consumer mediator or the European online dispute resolution platform free of charge, before any action before the competent courts.

Changes

We may amend these terms. A significant change will be announced in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you are free to delete your account if you do not accept it.
